The St. John’s Regional Fire Department will decide tomorrow whether to lift the ban on outdoor fires imposed last Friday afternoon.
The metro region has had a couple of days of rain since the ban took effect, but Captain Cara Pardy, Fire Prevention Officer with St. John’s Regional, says many other factors comer into play when making decisions on restrictions.
Captain Pardy says they take into account the availability of fire fighting resources as waterbombers could be occupied elsewhere. Indeed, for a time this year, most of the fleet was helping out in Nova Scotia as that province does not have aircraft dedicated to fighting fires.
The ban applies to, but is not confined to, fires which produce embers, for example, charcoal BBQ’s cannot be used but propane devices are okay.
