There’s going to be a public presentation next week on the specifics of plans to refurbish the National War Memorial downtown St. John’s.
Can-Am Platforms and Construction Ltd. has been awarded a contract for $6.1 million for the project. With the site plan now finalized, the latest contract signals the start of the construction phase.
The provincial government and the Royal Canadian Legion will host a public information session next Tuesday evening for anyone interested in learning more about the refurbishment.
The project includes the repatriation of the remains of an unknown soldier from northern France. The remains will be reinterred in a specifically-designed Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the War Memorial during a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the structure on July 1, 2024.
Newfoundland and Labrador is the only province in Canada to have its own National War Memorial- a historic site since 2019.
The information session takes place Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 in Pleasantville.
