The Mayor of Corner Brook says he is pleased to see the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary expanding on the west coast, so long as local resources are maintained.

The province announced the expansion of the Constabulary last week, noting that full implementation will take about a year.

The expanded jurisdiction will include communities in the Bay of Islands, the Town of Massey Drive, and communities in the Humber Valley as far east as Pasadena.

Jim Parsons’ understanding is that additional officers will be added for the transition, and as long as that happens he doesn’t have an issue.

He doesn’t want to see the current resources watered down as the RNC is a needed presence in the city.
