Superheroes will descend on Carbonear this afternoon in aid of the St. Vincent de Paul food bank.
The organization is encouraging people to come out in their favourite superhero get-ups for a “supperhero” carnival, all in support of the food bank.
Admission is a donation, and there will be food to buy and games to play.
Chairperson Kerri Abbott notes the organization always has a big food drive to end the summer, and the carnival was the brainchild of some of their summer students.
She says they have seen all summer long how big an issue food insecurity is in the region.
Abbott notes parents have been struggling this summer without the support of schools and their various food programs.
She says they have seen an increase in “panic” and “terror” from parents who are now also struggling to factor in back-to-school essentials.
The superhero food drive is taking place this afternoon from 1-4:30 p.m. at the food bank on St. Clare Avenue in Carbonear.
