It was a record-breaking year for VOCM’s Block the Bus program in support of the Single Parent Association.
Danielle Seward, Executive Director of SPANL, says Friday afternoon’s campaign fulfilled their goal of one thousand backpacks for children across the province.
Seward says rising costs have hit single parent families hard in recent years with a record number of people registered for their back to school program.
She says many parents don’t want to ask for help, but are left with no choice. By providing a backpack filled with new supplies, it takes stress off of parents and allows children to go back to school with confidence.
Though Block the Bus is over, donations are still being collected.
Monetary donations can be made at SPANL.ca, which will be used to purchase any additional last minute supplies they may need.
