The owners of a pub in downtown St. John’s have teamed up with health care workers to provide naloxone training to fellow business owners and bar staff.
Last week, staff at the Newfoundland Embassy worked alongside three nurse practitioners to distribute naloxone kits and train staff at over 25 bars and restaurants in the span of two days.
In a Facebook post, the Newfoundland Embassy says they decided to take on the initiative due to a recent spike in cocaine related deaths, including Ben Olivero, who was found dead just footsteps away from the business.
Staff hope to host a naloxone training session at the embassy in the near future for anyone interested in learning the first aid skill.
