The Opposition is raising the alarm after they say an access to information request revealed that hundreds of housing units in the province are sitting empty.
According to PC Leader David Brazil, the report shows that as of July 26 there are 143 vacant units that are “in various stages of the repair process.”
As well, another 213 units are “selected, pending selection or no demand.”
Brazil says people are watching a housing crisis unfold, yet the Liberals are “sitting on hundreds of empty units” which he deems “unbelievable.”
PC MHA Chris Tibbs says his office gets calls every day from people lined up for apartment viewings, families living in tents, and others who have been waiting months to find housing, yet publicly owned units are empty.
His is asking for the Minister to take action and come out with a plan to address the situation.
