“Wear the gear.”
That’s the advice of RCMP who are urging people to think safety this long holiday weekend.
Labour Day is traditionally when people head to the cabin or spend some time enjoying the outdoors. RCMP Corporal Jolene Garland says making sure safety is the top priority doesn’t mean you can’t have fun.
She reminds people to adhere to regulations and laws created to keep people safe including not operating an ATV, vehicle or boat while impaired, and wearing the appropriate safety gear.
Garland advices the use of helmets and seatbelts when and where applicable, and wearing life jackets while on the water.
It’s also important, says Garland, not to allow young people under the age of 16 to operate an ATV or dirt bike unsupervised.
