A 28-year-old man is facing impaired charges in connection with an active assault investigation.

Around 7:00 p.m. yesterday in Corner Brook, police were called to Empire Street where a woman had reportedly been assaulted and forced into a vehicle.

Police found the suspect vehicle and pulled it over. The driver, a man, was arrested and the victim, who was still in the vehicle, was taken back to RNC headquarters to be interviewed.

The man showed signs of being drunk and provided a breath sample that was above the legal limit. His vehicle was impounded.

The assault complaint is still being investigated. The man was released, pending the outcome of the investigation.
