St. John’s is going to ramp up its replacement of snow clearing equipment.
The capital city found last winter that much of the fleet required downtime in order to facilitate repairs. As a result, it is reducing the lifecycle so that new equipment is purchased sooner than under the previous pattern.
Councillor Ron Ellsworth says the current fleet replacement phase will focus on loaders, blowers and sidewalk units.
They’re using a surplus to pay for the replacement machines, so that will help keep costs down, says Ellsworth. As well, the replacement will reduce maintenance costs.
