Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services’ new three-year healthy food policy is missing the mark according to some who frequent the Health Sciences.
The policy sees the gradual phasing out of things like soft drinks, candy, and deep fried foods with the aim of providing healthier options for patients, visitors, and staff. However, the policy’s intent and implementation are not adding up to some including Kristina Ennis, a former PC Party candidate.
Ennis, who has been visiting the Health Sciences daily over the last few weeks to be with a family member, has been looking at the cost effectiveness of some of the healthier options. Affordability is a big issue.
Ennis says the policy needs to help everyone—not just some. She wants healthy food to be more accessible and affordable.
