What’s being billed as one of the largest 2SLGBTQIA+ conferences of its kind in Canada is being held in Ottawa next weekend.
The conference has been organized by The Enchanté Network, a support network encompassing more than 200 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations across Canada.
Executive Director Tyler Boyce says the timing of the conference is important.
He says the most recent StatsCan data shows a 64 per cent increase in the number of hate crimes against queer and trans reported to police across the country. He notes that while hate crimes have more than doubled, the stats only account for the crimes reported to police.
