The federal minister of Emergency Preparedness was in the capital city this week to attend SARScene 2023, a national conference on search and rescue currently underway at the Delta Hotel.
Among the discussions underway is the push for greater search and rescue resources on the ground, and on the ready in Labrador.
A delegation representing the NunatuKavut Community Council is in attendance two years after the disappearance of the Island Lady.
Today I joined #SARscene2023, the biggest national Search & Rescue conference where professionals from Canada and beyond come together to learn, share ideas, and discuss SAR challenges. Former Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan says the conversation is not just about resources, but the technology that can be used to assist in search and rescue in remote areas.
He says we need to have a situational awareness of what is taking place, and that when a distress call goes out, having the right capabilities to respond, and rescuing those impacted, is of paramount importance.
The conference is taking place just days after the loss of three fishermen off the coast near Fleur de Lys.
