A woman charged with murder is trying to have significant evidence thrown out before her trial starts next month.
Thirty-year-old Lorraine Obed is accused of second-degree murder in the death of 49-year-old Jimmy Corcoran two years ago.
They had previously been in a relationship together.
The dramatic scene played out on Carter’s Hill in downtown St. John’s around supper time on August 26th, 2021, a Thursday evening.
Police responded to a report of an assault in progress and arrived to find a man lying on the ground after reportedly being stabbed.
Corcoran was pronounced dead a short time later.
Obed has been in custody ever since, and was in Supreme Court Friday with an application to exclude key evidence in the case, which was argued by her lawyer Jason Edwards.
There is a publication ban on what transpired in order to protect the integrity of the jury trial which is set to begin October 3rd.
A decision on the application to exclude some of the evidence is expected on September 28th.
