The City of Corner Brook is set to launch a new program to distribute an estimated 2,700 battery-operated smoke alarms to some homes built before the year 2000.
The provincial government is pitching in with $90,000.
Deputy Chief Derek Simmons of the Corner Brook Fire Department says smoke alarms are the most critical part of fire protection. He says it’s important to make sure they are in the correct locations and in good working order.
Application forms are available through the City of Corner Brook’s website.
