The local medical community is mourning the sudden passing of a physician who made a huge contribution to women’s health in the province, and beyond.
Dr. Atamjit Gill an OB/Gyn who worked at the Women’s Health Centre at the Health Sciences in St. John’s, passed away suddenly last week.
Premier Andrew Furey posted a tribute to Dr. Gill to social media, calling him “an amazing doctor and gentleman.”
Furey says Gill was a dear friend who made “a huge contribution to women’s health” in the province, and around the world. He says he helped to launch a women’s health program as part of Team Broken Earth’s work in Bangladesh and elsewhere.

He says Dr. Gill will leave a lasting legacy in Newfoundland and Labrador. He says Dr. Gill taught at Memorial University for decades and a large number of the physicians delivering babies in this province today were probably taught by him.
Furey is offering his deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
