The premier will be in Fort McMurray tomorrow to try and convince workers from this province to move home.
Premier Andrew Furey will be joined by 22 Newfoundland and Labrador companies at a job fair in the Alberta city. This province is estimating that more than 80,000 new jobs will be needed in the next decade in a variety of skilled trades industries.
Furey says the province will have a lot of big opportunities, especially in building infrastructure and the green energy industry.
He says there will be lots of good, high-paying jobs popping up in Newfoundland and Labrador, and they want to make sure that those displaced to Fort McMurray due to the job market know of the opportunities at home.
While the emotional value of moving home is a great motivator in and of itself, Furey says, there is also a real economic opportunity.
He says there are sustainable, long-term opportunities that people in Fort McMurray may not understand.
Furey will be speaking tomorrow at the job fair at 4:00 p.m. at Earl’s Kitchen in Fort McMurray.
