March of Dimes Canada has officially launched their After Stroke Program in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The initiative helps stroke survivors, families and caregivers with their transition from hospital to home.
March of Dimes Canada CEO Leonard Baker says about 1,400 people have a stroke every year in the province.
He says while the health care system does a great job of helping people who have had a stroke, the transition back to the home can be challenging. That is where their program comes in.
He says they offer programs that help survivors get back to their every-day lives and help them live independently
Krista Muller suffered a stroke in 2018 and is still dealing with the effects today.
She only found out about the After Stroke Program a few years ago, but says it gives survivors a “totally different path” than what she had.
She says there are many specialists through the program that can help the many different types of stroke survivors.
