Public exams will be eliminated throughout the province’s K-12 system with the planned introduction of a new evaluation framework for high school students.
Government is launching a consultation process with parents and educators this fall to get their take on some proposed options for assessing high school students.
It’s hoped that a new assessment and evaluation model will be implemented in time for the 2025-26 school year.
The Department of Education is proposing the introduction of a new assessment approach for literacy and numeracy that it says will not be attached to a particular subject or course, but that measures a student’s skills in “realistic situations.”
Those assessments would take place in grade 10 with additional assessment opportunities in grades 11 and 12.
Computer-based modular course evaluation is also being considered, which would include subjects like English, math, and lab sciences.
