The province is currently development two new climate change action plans to cover the latter half of the current decade.

Today is the Global Day of Climate Action.

The Department of Environment and Climate Change says they have implemented or taken action on all 45 items recommended in the 2019 to 2024 Climate Change Action Plan.

Now, the department says work is underway on two new plans to cover from 2025 to 2030 – The Climate Change Mitigation Plan and the Climate Change Adaptation Plan.

The former plan will focus on reducing emissions, while the latter will look at actions needed to adapt to the impacts of climate change, such as extreme weather.

Government says they have a number of programs in place to combat climate change.
