Turkish officials are in the capital city today for the unveiling of a new monument to recognize the Turkish Martyrs of Gallipoli.
The unveiling will take place at the Trail of the Caribou Memorial Park on The Boulevard, starting with a formal parade marching from the Garrison to Caribou Park starting at 6:00 p.m.
The parade will involve twenty to thirty uniformed troops from the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, marching with C7 rifles. The Canadian Armed Forces say no ammunitions of any kind will be involved.
Premier Andrew Furey and St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen will be joined by Turkish officials for the event, including Ahmet Yildiz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in Türkiye, among others.
