The provincial government is building a new school in Kenmount Terrace in St. John’s, but the grade levels involved have not yet been determined.
A piece of land on Ladysmith Drive will be the location for the school, which they hope to have opened by September of 2026.
As for which grades the new school will cover, Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell says it’s something they’re still working on.
She says they’ve identified that the school will serve both primary and elementary grades, but the final decision will be determined through a consultation process.
Yesterday’s announcement came amid growing calls for a high school in Paradise.
Parents have formed a lobby group in hopes that government will announce funding for a high school in one of the province’s fastest-growing communities.
Premier Andrew Furey says he’s had conversations with Mayor Dan Bobbitt about the need for a high school in the town.
“We need to make sure we are meeting the demand of the current population where they exist, and Paradise is certainly one of those,” says Furey.
