Metrobus has introduced a new on-demand service in the metro region.

The pilot will provide users with another option between the downtown transit hub on Water Street and Signal Hill, Forest Road and Quidi Vidi Village.

The new service, called a first of its kind in St. John’s, will allow riders to book a shared ride for trips within the On Demand service zone.

Once a ride is booked, customers are directed to a virtual bus stop at a nearby corner, and a smaller, 14-passenger bus will pick them up.

The new system will help to minimize detours and, it’s hoped, reduce congestion and emissions.
