The US Coast Guard will not be releasing specifics on the presumed human remains recovered from the wreckage of the Titan submersible which imploded while descending to the site of the Titanic back in June.
Oceangate’s 21-foot carbon fibre submersible, with five people on board, suffered a “catastrophic implosion” while descending to the Titanic wreck site on June 18.
The tragedy resonated around the world, garnering huge international media attention.
The occupants of the Titan included Oceangate founder and president Stockton Rush, UK billionaire adventurer and philanthropist, Hamish Harding, French pilot and deep sea expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet and UK/Pakistani businessman Shazhada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman.
The US Coast Guard, which is the investigative lead, says due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and out of respect for the families and friends of the deceased, they will not be providing specifics on the evidence recovered from the wreckage. The US Marine Board of Investigation is still in the fact-finding phase of the investigation and is collecting all relevant evidence and information.
The latter part of the fact-finding phase of the investigation will include a public hearing. At least 60 days’ notice will be provided ahead of the public hearing.
