Metrobus is experiencing “record high” ridership and a variety of factors are responsible for the change.
General Manager Judy Powell says the price of fuel and rising inflation are among the factors driving ridership.
She says higher rental rates is also driving people outside of the centre city and into more widely spread suburban areas, meaning they’re more likely to commute. They’re also seeing a greater number of people who are new to the city using Metrobus services.
Metrobus is introducing a new On Demand app in partnership with Memorial University, that will allow riders to book a ride on one of two smaller style buses that will pick them up when and where the demand is there. Powell says they’re hoping that will also help to increase ridership.
