The biggest fundraising event of the year for Ronald McDonald House in St. John’s has lived up to its billing, and then some.
The 12th annual Red Shoe Crew—Walk for Families was held across the province throughout September, with people and community groups stepping up to raise money in various ways.
The average total in past years has been in the range of $235,000, but that was surpassed this year by $10,000.
Director of development and communications, Christina Morgan, says that’s despite the financial pressures facing people today.
“It has been a rough couple of years. It’s been very difficult for charities to run fund-raising events,” she said. “But here we are with results meeting the pre-pandemic times so we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped raise this money.”
It costs about $1.3 million a year to operate Ronald McDonald House and all of its programs and services.
It serves as a home away from home for families with children being treated at the nearby Janeway hospital.
