The province’s Child Death Review Committee has made a number of recommendations to the Department of Education following a recent case review.
The committee is recommending that the Department of Health ensure regular and meaningful updates to the health curriculum, in particular the Healthy Living 1200 course to respond in an effective way to what it calls current issues and challenges for young people in the province.
It also recommends that the Health Living 1200 course be mandatory for all students and that the course be updated every two years to ensure that it remains relevant.
The report has also been forwarded to the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate.
