Former Liberal health minister and former Nurses Union president Joan Marie Aylward has been named as the province’s new Lieutenant Governor.
Aylward’s appointment was announced by the Prime Minister’s Office today. She takes over from Judy Foote.
Aylward led the province’s Nurses Union for five years before running provincially in the district of St. John’s Centre.
She held the portfolios of Social Services, Health and Finance under Premier Brian Tobin.
