Contrary to rumours on social media, the tent city across the street from Confederation Building is not being dismantled.
Photos and video showing RNC officers removing tents and other items from the area are not what they seem, according to the police.
They say what’s being removed are tents and other belongings that were “abandoned” after being damaged by overnight winds.
An RNC spokesman says the items were posing a safety risk for drivers on the four-lane Prince Philip Parkway, adding anything that was removed from the site can still be retrieved from RNC headquarters.
Police were also on site earlier today for an emergency medical call.
There is an increased presence of officers in the area of a tent encampment on Confederation Hill. In the interest of the motoring public, officers are removing abandoned tents and destroyed property. This property can be retrieved by the owners at RNC HQ.
