The Muslim Association of Newfoundland and Labrador is standing in solidarity with the civilians of Gaza who have been left without water, food, power or humanitarian aid as the war in Israel intensifies.
The Muslim Association is distressed with the suffering caused by the Israeli bombardment in Gaza. Both sides are blaming the other for responsibility. The Muslim Association says the recent bombing of a Christian hospital were many Palestinians were seeking refuge and medical care, took the ongoing violence “to a level that no free human conscience can bear and tolerate.”
The Muslim Association says as a nonpartisan religious organization, it is not willing to engage in the politics of the conflict, but as faithful Muslims, they firmly stand against injustice. They are demanding that elected politicians and media assume more responsibility in securing an immediate ceasefire. They’re also asking them to refrain from “toxic narratives that serve to trigger hatred against Muslims in Canada and elsewhere.”
Local Muslims are gathering this Friday for their Jumah prayer at the mosque in St. John’s, to pray for “an immediate end to the ongoing injustice in Gaza.” They will also have a funeral payer in absentia for Muslims killed in the recent attacks.
