The province will soon unveil the details of new virtual physician coverage to help people with access to primary care.

Health Minister Tom Osborne says the program will provide virtual coverage to remote areas, and access to care to anyone who does not have a physician—with no cost to the patient.

Osborne says the rollout will begin in a few weeks.

They will begin with the New-Wes-Valley area in mid-to-late November, with 24/7 virtual coverage being provided for the local hospital through the program, so long as they have a nurse practitioner.

Osborne states that rollout for others in the province will begin soon thereafter for those registered through Patient Connect.

He says anyone who is signed up and does not have a family doctor can avail of virtual services from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. either by phone or video call.

Osborne says all doctors will be required to be registered in this province.

The Health Minister says more details abut the specifics of the program, and the company that will be administering it, will be revealed in the coming weeks.
