A new show with an emphasis on providing people with disabilities an equal playing field to take the stage is looking to assemble its cast.
Power Productions, a theatre company with a mandate to give particular consideration to performers who self identify as living with a seen or unseen disability, has put out an open audition call for the latest show in their Pop Culture Series, “Perry Mason: A Case for Mason”, based on the classic award winning 1950s television series.
Artistic Director Paul David Power, says the Pop Culture Series allows them to provide opportunity to those with disabilities in ways not often seen on stage in this province.
Power says while people with disabilities are being seen on stage more and more, its often only when the subject of the show is having a disability. He says the Pop Culture Series shows that diverse casting can work in any show, not just when the subject matter calls for it.
The show runs February 16-18 at the LSPU Hall in St. John’s. Auditions are tomorrow and Wednesday by appointment only and can be booked online.
