A long-time deaf rights advocate has announced her intent to run for the NDP nomination in Conception Bay East – Bell Island.
A vacancy will be created when long-time MHA Tory David Brazil steps down at the end of December.
Kim Churchill is the mother of Carter Churchill, who a human rights tribunal determined had been discriminated against by the NL English School District by failing to provide adequate education to meet his needs.

Churchill says she chose to seek the NDP nomination because of the support provided to them by NDP Leader Jim Dinn.
The PC nomination process is currently underway. Portugal Cove-St. Phillips town councillor Tina Neary has already signaled her interest in the Tory nod in the district.
Fred Hutton, a former broadcast journalist and advisor to Premier Andrew Furey, is said to be seriously mulling over a possible run at the Liberal nomination in the district.
