The frontman to one of Canada’s most iconic rock and roll groups has passed away.
Myles Goodwyn of April Wine died on Sunday at the age of 75.
Goodwyn spent over 50 years as the band’s lead vocalist and was behind a number of hits, from the hard rock sounds in ‘Oowatanite’ to softer ballads like ‘I’m on Fire for You Baby’.
He received the SOCAN National Achievement Award in 2002 and was honoured with the East Coast Music Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Just two months ago, Goodwyn and his bandmates were together for their induction into the Canada Walk of Fame.
The Nova Scotia native performed in this province numerous times, both as a member of April Wine and as a solo artist.
His last visit to the island was in May 2022, where he performed solo at shows in St. John’s and Gander.
Goodwyn retired from performing this past spring, saying he was dealing with health complications from diabetes. He played his last show in his home province in March.
The cause of death has not been announced.
