Anonymous tips submitted through Crime Stoppers was a helpful asset in taking action against a number of crimes reported in 2023.
Rod Pike, Chair of NL Crime Stoppers, says anonymous tips led to 60 arrests, over 100 charges laid and nearly 40 weapons seizures.
He says the service is a vital asset in addressing crime that may have gone by the wayside had they not received tips from the public.
Pike reassures the public that any info relayed to them, whether it be by phone or online, is completely anonymous.
He says neither them or police have any way of knowing who the tipster is. While you could be asked to identify yourself in court, Pike says that’s optional as the Supreme Court recognizes the right to anonymity for reports made through Crime Stoppers.
