The provincial and federal governments have announced $13.6 million over four years for the implementation of the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.
Federal MP Lisa Hepfner and provincial Minister of Women and Gender Equality, Pam Parsons, made the announcement at the Manuel’s River Interpretation Centre this morning.
Parsons calls the bilateral agreement “historic.”
She says the money will be used to increase capacity for local community groups, to implement preventative programs—such as educational programs and outreach initiatives, and wraparound services for survivors.
She says the plan will also specifically focus on indigenous populations and people who are gender diverse.
