The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is warning the public of a scam going around involving the use of law enforcement credentials.
The scheme involves a letter being sent to previous fraud victims offering to help recover money lost.
The logos of various law enforcement agencies have been used on the fake latter, including the RNC, RCMP, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
The Constabulary reminds that law enforcement will never ask someone to transfer money or make a payment to support an investigation.
They say any unsolicited mail, emails, phones calls, and texts should never be responded to, and should be discarded immediately.
Anyone who receives such a letter should contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
