An access to information request that reveals thousands of deficiencies with the new Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook has the opposition questioning the process for P3 partnerships.
An event was held by government last month marking the completion of the first phase of the project—with the next being moving in equipment and staff.
The ATIPP request, filed by the PCs, shows some 2,700 deficiencies with the new facility—including damaged floors, ceiling tiles, water leaks, and other ‘rough finishes’ requiring further investigation.
Opposition critic Barry Petten says government has taken possession of the new hospital, and as such, has started making payments on it.
He says government needs to re-evaluate its processes for P3 partnerships.
He likens it to buying a home. He says no one would start paying a mortgage without making sure any deficiencies were taken care of first.
