Connections for Seniors is getting a $800,000 funding boost from the federal government to support keeping seniors in their homes.
Federal Minister of Seniors Seamus O’Regan announced the funding earlier yesterday as part of nearly $40 million going to 71 similar pilot projects across the country.
The funding in this province will go towards in-home support services for 2,000 older adults living in the St. John’s region.
Executive director Mohamed Abdallah calls receiving the money a “pivotal moment” for the organization, noting that it will help enhance their existing programs around transportation, volunteerism, social enterprise, and food security.
They are hoping to expand their food program from just shopping help and food hampers to having nutritious meals delivered to seniors.
