The co-founder of Drive Electric NL is hoping new federal regulations will make electric vehicles a more affordable option.
New regulations announced by the federal government will end the sale of gas and diesel powered vehicles by 2035. It also aims to have EVs and plug-in hybrids make up 20 per cent of all auto sales by 2026.
Jon Seary says the new standards will put pressure on the auto industry to provide affordable eco-friendly options.
He says auto makers will be forced to offer different models of EVs that have a cost-friendly sticker price, and will cost less to operate annually in comparison to a fuel burning vehicle.
