Metro police had to invoke a rarely-used type of warrant to arrest a person suspected of causing extensive damage to a home in Torbay early New Year’s Day.
They were familiar with the suspect but when they knocked on his door Monday morning, the 40-year-old refused to answer.
The RNC used a “Feeney” warrant, a document which gives officers the right to go onto a property and enter a residence. He was arrested without incident and charged with mischief.
Meanwhile, another man is in custody on suspicion of causing damage to property.
RNC officers arrived on the scene of a disturbance on Freshwater Road in St. John’s early last night to find one man pinning another down on the ground.. The man was holding him as he believed him to be responsible for damaging his property.
The 31-year-old has been charged with mischief and will appear in court today.
