2024 marks the 75th anniversary of Newfoundland and Labrador entering into Confederation with Canada.
As a result a number of activities and celebrations are planned.
Premier Andrew Furey announced some of the plans late last year.
Heidi Coombs of the Newfoundland and Labrador Historical Society says despite being part of Canada for three quarters of a century, the province has managed to maintain its unique culture and sense of identity.
Even though a lot of the discourse since Confederation has focused on the negative aspects of the process, Coombs says debate is starting to shift.
She says historians have recently pointed out that between the National Convention and two referenda that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians had more opportunity to publicly discuss, debate and decide upon their political future than anywhere else in Canada.
