The Executive Director of End Homelessness St. John’s says his group is continuing to engage with a handful of people living in tents on the grounds surrounding Colonial Building in St. John’s.
In the meantime, Doug Pawson says every effort has been made to try to find accommodations for the people who had been camped out at the site prior to Christmas.
He says there was a real push to get people the supports and options needed to get them shelter. He’s “really pleased to see that work happen and to see some of the outcomes leading up to the holidays.”
He says they’re not just looking at housing options, but case management supports for some of the people involved.
“And that can be hard to find,” Pawson admits “with a shelter system that’s bursting at the seams.” Their focus is to ensure that people are made aware of the supports available if they choose to seek them out.
