A man known for selling newspapers in downtown St. John’s for over 55 years was laid to rest today.
Carl LeGrow passed away earlier this week at the age of 69.
Carl’s brother, Steve, reflected on his brother’s life in a Facebook post yesterday.
He says Carl was one of 13 children, and describes him as being the “gifted one.”
LeGrow says it was at age nine his father encouraged Carl to start selling papers. This would become a lifelong career for Carl, spending over 55 years selling papers on Water Street. As well, he says Carl also sold many tickets, hockey cards and bingo cards for charity.
In addition to selling papers, LeGrow was a longtime member of the Waterford Hospital Lions Club. He was with the organization for 31 years.
