The proliferation of graffiti, particularly in the capital city’s downtown has become an unwanted expense for area businesses, but a group of young entrepreneurs are doing their bit in ridding the city of the unsightly mess.
The Scrub Squad consists of three young men, Jack Boland, Jacob Sheppard and Brandon Ivey who formed the company to clean up unwanted tags and obscenities from private property.
Jacob Sheppard says while activity dies down in the winter months, they’re kept on the hop through the summer.
Jack Boland believes the graffiti is fed by online culture.
He says the internet has made short-form content much more popular. He says ‘tagging’ has become an excercise in one-upmanship and leading to the proliferation of vandalism.
