Staffing shortages are all too common these days, but it’s not a concern in filling various positions for the new transitional housing units at the Comfort Inn in St. John’s.
That’s according to Minister John Abbott, who sits on the province’s homelessness task force.
Government announced last week that it would be leasing the Airport Road hotel for three years for $21 million.
Abbott says the recruitment process is well underway in hiring a number of professionals, such as social workers, nursing support staff, and housing support workers.
He says difficulty filling any of the available positions is not a concern.
They’re expecting to have a team of about fifteen workers and are basing their plan on measures already taken in Halifax that have already been proven to work.
Existing staff from NL Housing and End Homelessness St. John’s will also be providing assistance to the facility.
