A woman in her 20s is dead, and two others were seriously injured in a horrific collision on the Trans Canada Sunday afternoon that is under investigation as a possible case of impaired driving.
Police were called to reports of a collision between an SUV and a car on the Trans Canada near Arnold’s Cove at 3:15 Sunday afternoon.
A 22-year-old passenger in the car died at the scene, while the 22-year-old driver suffered life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the SUV was rescued from his burning vehicle by bystanders. Police say the 71-year-old man showed signs of impairment so a blood sample was obtained.
The two drivers were taken to hospital in Clarenville and transported to the Health Sciences where they both remain.
Officers are waiting for the results of the blood sample to determine whether charges of impaired driving causing death are appropriate.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage of events leading to the time of the collision is asked to contact Clarenville RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
