Storm warnings are out for the Burin Peninsula, Clarenville area and Avalon Peninsula including metro with snow and high winds in the offing.
The snow moves in by lunchtime with about 10-15 cm this afternoon and winds around 30-40 from the northeast.
Wanda Batten, a meteorologist at the Gander Weather Office, says things ramp up tonight. She says those winds pick up to 60-70 km/h, maybe even gusts to 80-90 km/h in exposed areas, with another 10 cm of snow.
Some schools will be closed today, while schools in metro will close three hours sooner than usual. That essentially means classes will be dismissed at about lunchtime.
