We’ll learn the results of the Conception Bay East-Bell Island by-election this evening.
The month-long campaign began over Christmas, with the writ being issued the day after long-time Progressive Conservative MHA David Brazil retired from politics to focus on his health.
There are four candidates in the running: Former broadcaster-turned advisor to the Premier Fred Hutton for the Liberals, human rights advocate Kim Churchill for the NDP, and two Portugal Cove-St. Phillips town councilors. Tina Neary is running for the PCs and Darryl Harding is an Independent Conservative.
Advance polling stations were open last Monday, with over 1,700 people casting their vote.
The polls will be open for a 12-hour period until 8:00 tonight.
VOCM News will have the election results as they come in.
