The Canadian Coast Guard has deployed a boom around a former provincial ferry tied up and listing in the water in Springdale.
The Coast Guard got a call that the vessel, the former provincial ferry the Captain Earle W. Winsor, was listing at a private dock in the town.
Coast Guard and Transport Canada personnel boarded the vessel and found flooding in two compartments. The assessment process continues.
Meanwhile, owner George Yates tells VOCM News that work was being carried out inside the vessel which he purchased about five or six years ago.
He says no fuel is leaking from the vessel and that the boom was deployed as a precautionary measure.
The Coast Guard says a surveillance flight has been conducted and no pollution was seen. The Coast Guard will maintain overall command of response to the incident and will ensure “reasonable response.”
